I had a total Hip replacement back in January and I followed your advice - and my surgeons's - and did plenty of sled pushes, banded marching in place, Farmer's Walks, and Swings, both one and two handed. I worked my way up to one hand Swings with the 32kg for plenty of volume with no issues. One routine I enjoy doing and works for me is a (1,2,3,4,5) x 5 ascending Ladder of two-hand swing, two-hand High Pull, and a Goblet Squat. I'm 66 now, my hip is great and I feel fantastic.
Honestly, this is fantastic. Thanks for sharing this with me. I know how tough that can be. It’s a much harder decision than most people think.
Thanks for this video! It popped up right as I was wondering about the difference myself! Perfect timing as always 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Love this channel. GREAT information!
Glad you enjoy it! I really appreciate this!!!
I tend to do double arm swings, sadly in my gym heaviest kettlebell is only 20kg, but still use in some form every week. I'm gonna buy myself couple for having in the house
I love the 20 kg Belle
@@DanJohnStrengthCoach 20kg is good, but for swings I prefer slightly heavier, like 28kg, nothing too crazy
I’m not opposed to one arm swings but I don’t tend to do them myself. I prefer two arm swings and if I’m going one hand, I prefer clean and snatch.
We agree on this!
Was just about to comment this
Love my one arm swings( 32kg), all about the right technique.
Ok
Hi. Could you next time speak more about that easy strenth program from begining please?

Just subbed your channel - excellent content! Thank you so much
Awesome, thank you!
I prefer 2 handed swings, they're more balanced amd safe. I do alternate arm swings sometimes because they safer because you're swinging towards the middle so as to do a hand swap for the next rep.
I agree with you on this
Hey Coach.. Thank you for all the great content. I'm 35, got a 16 KG KB and have enjoyed using it. Its great for swings and squats but I still struggle to do TGUs, wind mills, snatches etc with it. I'm thinking to get an adjustable KB. I'm wondering if I should get one that goes for 12 -32 KGs (expansion pack ) or my other option would be to get 2 x 12-20 KGs I like the idea of getting more work done with 2 but my form on the swings are much better with the single KB, I have a 32 inch inseam and I fell my legs get too wide on the double KB swings, may be I just need to get used to them. I'm looking at ones from Bells of Steel. Appreciate your thoughts and guidance on this.
.
My goal: strength conditioning for martial arts, reduce chance of injuries.
I hate them but they are a great option for you
@@DanJohnStrengthCoach the adjustable ones are the ones you hate? So go single or double?
Great video John!
is it okay to do kettlebell swing every day? or it is better to do every other day
It's whatever you can do. Not long ago, most of the KB community did swings daily...for me, it's like daily squatting, the dose is the key.
Do you have any links to further discussion about the workout you describe at the start here? It sounds great!
Thanks for all the great work :)
What workout is this? I'm sorry...
@@DanJohnStrengthCoach in the first 12 seconds or so you reference 'military press, pull up, hip thrusts, ab wheel, suitcase carry' etc as part of an answer to a question but the question itself doesn't feature in the clip. It sounds really interesting and simple!
Many thanks
Oh...That's the "Perfect Workout." I have a whole video on this here on RUclips.
@@DanJohnStrengthCoach Super - many thanks!
I've swapped the one arm swing with the snatch. I think it better?
Rather different I'd say? No real hikeback with the snatch in my experience
@@albertsmith9315or just do two arm swings
The snatch is different, yes. "Better" is such a touchy subject with KBers.
We had a question in the gym:
is it better to have 2 KBs of the same weight or two of different weights for the best workouts with the least amount of gear?
My answer was to go for the same weights because you can do double KB combos. Am I correct or not?
I talk about this in the new book and here on the podcast...a lot. I like mismatched weights, yes...a great training tool.
Hello sir. thanks again for a great video. I had one question that's related to your statement at 0:53 about not liking ballistic, rotational movement in the swing; what are your thoughts on movements that are intentionally rotational, like a cross-body swing? I've seen that recommended for building punching power, but is the juice not worth the squeeze? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
That is correct...I don't think they are worth it. Now, you can go off and find people who teach it and they have strong opinions, too, but once you mess up a back, it tends to be an issue. I'm a throws coach and we focus all on anti-rotation. Come by the gym or workshop or whatever and I will show you. It's weirdly simple stuff.
@@DanJohnStrengthCoach That definitely tracks. My low back is slightly messed up from an old grappling injury so I’ve been wary. I hope to one day make it to a workshop of yours; I’m in NY state so it’s a bit of a haul. Thanks for continuing to put out this free info.
Edit: Just bought the Easy Strength Omnibook and I can already tell that it’s a terrific investment.
I’m 75 and have balance issues. I recently finished chemo and working on getting my strength back. I’ve tried light weight two handed, but at some point (between rep 5 and 7) I always seem to get off balance on the upswing. Any suggestions?
I would like to see a video on this
2hand compresses my large girth so doing 1handed. seems one hand or no swings : worth the risk? m3 120+ ipf lifter
As you progress, let me know if this changes. This is an interesting thing to read.
will do sir!
!!!
I hope that is good...
Ahahah it's a comment for the algorithm Dan.
You know what's funny, when I was watching this video, I was thinking how I used to read your newsletter when I was a teenager. And I learned how to squat thanks to your free ebook - I think From the ground up? Or was that the newsletter?
Now I'm 33, and it's great to see you have a successful YT channel.
Much appreciated
Mr. John, I may have a stupid question here but with Mass Made Simple, is there an age in which I should no longer be trying to bulk?
I’m 48, a fireman, and have always understood it to be necessary to maintain or have as much muscle as possible as you age?
Should I go about this a different way than a bulking program like MMS?
This is a perfect answer, but I think probably about age 35. Obviously, there might be reasons to go past that but most people would be better off chasing different qualities after 35.
Received and thank you for your time sir.
People love trying to make simple safe effective exercises more complicated for no reason
A truth.
Ok. Who is the guy?
Yeah, I’m a trash man who wants the gossip too.
Any clarity would be fine here.
@@DanJohnStrengthCoach He’s wondering who failed the cert and started their own course.
AHHHHH...well, I will be kind here. I have a lot of funny stories about famous people doing the certs. One (another person) is quite famous and HID during the workouts!
@@dickiesflannel7216 He's a true master. No BS.
